CARLOS CHIMAL
With a bold immersion in the turbulent and resplendent times of the Colony, Carlos Chimal opens an opportunity to discover the ideas, the emotions and the adventures experienced by the inhabitants of New Spain during the decisive years of our history with his book El Mercurio Volante, to which a conflict situation goes: the Lordship of the spaniards has its balance in the urge of a colonial thinking (our roots) forced in turn to coexist with an indigenous population that grudgingly adjusts to the -not always easy- castiltecas empire. Chimal chooses as the main character the wise Novohispano Carlos de Sigüenza y Góngora, who is supported and accompanied by the indigenous Serafín Ocelote. Bishops, viceroys and other illustrious figures take place along this novel; such as Athanasius Kircher, the astronomer Kino, and nun Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz. With maturity and serenity that indicates, we have all learned the lessons about the Zapatista insurrection at the end of the last century, without the fake nostalgia or idealizations in which our colonialist writers could once have incurred; Carlos invites us all to return with a fresh vision to this invaluable part of our history.
